Hammer Dir (rock dwarf)

Separator

Hammer Dir are Dwarves who live in the mountainous Eastern regions at the edge of the Incian Sphere. They are shorter than elves and humans but are stocky and hardy. Dwarf noses are large and the brow is extremely apparent due to thicker bones which also helps by keeping their eyes deeply inset. They live long lives and are able to achieve tremendous magical and engineering feats. Several Dwarven clans have massive underground fortresses where the walls of the are built right into the cavern. These structures are the most well built and defensive of any of this Age. The few ships that Hammer Dir commission are extremely durable made entirely of metal, and almost impossible to board and capture. There have even been rumors that some of their vessels can completely submerge for short periods of time.

Most Dwarves choose the path of Engineer, Warrior, or Alchemist. There are, however, enough practices that can draw Dwarves in just about any direction. Those Dwarves who consider themselves Hammer Dir generally worship gods of Stone, Steel, Blood, and Indulgence.

It was the Hammer Dir who first encountered the Terres Hokate during the Breach 800 years ago. As the Hokate men flooded in with raw fury, the Dwarven miners pushed them back before retreating to their strongholds. The brave miners killed countless Hokate as many Dwarves were accomplished warriors and could swing a pick with surprising force. For the next 200 years, the Hammer Dir endured countless barrage of Hokate invasion from the ever increasing breaches in the Gods Wall. In un-Dwarf-like fashion, a special brigade was created for the Hammer Dir to perform the most dangerous, dubious, and clandestine of operations. This brigade was known as Black Granite, and though the Hammer Dir have officially disbanded the company, there are sects of Dwarves who still follow their unorthodox practices. Black Granite operatives were the first to see into the Hokate Sphere. The Final Push came when armies of Men, Elves, and even Orkis came to the aid of the Hammer Dir. The combined force was able to force back the Hokate, and for the first time fulls scale war was fought in the Hokate Sphere. Since the armistice, there has been increasing tension that may throw those of the Gods Wall back into war. The Hammer Dir and Terres Hokate have little reason to stay at peace, as they compete for the same resources buried underneath.
